Hi Ethan! I really enjoyed reading your blog post. I really liked the article you chose and I was really intrigued by something you said in your last paragraph. "As a master of orchestration, it is said in the article that Berlioz himself interacted with his audience vividly." I think this is realy interesting because I believe that the composition element is at the core of a piece, however the orchestration is how that piece is translated to a listener. The orchestration is so monumental in terms of creating a gripping premiere. I was fortunate enough to take an orchestration class in High School, and I was truly amazed by how meticulous and beautiful the process was. I agree that Berlioz was truly a master of the craft, and it is what really made his compositions come to life, and so revered. He understood the notion that it is how the music is translated and communicted, and he took it to such a beautiful, and colorful level. I think great film composers today have been greatly inspired by the way Berluoz literallly characterizes the instruments. It allows the audience to not only listen to music, but visualize; which is truly amazing. Thank you so much for such a thought provoking blog post. I so enjoyed reading it! #mus130b
