Hi Olivia! I really enjoyed reading your blog post. I found your tangential comparrison between everyone's individual rites of spring to Stranvinsky's "Rite of Spring" to be very intriguing. For myself being from Los Angeles, California, spring has a different meaning then being from anywhere else, as it basicaly feels like spring year round. I know I am very lucky to have grown up and live in a place where that is the case. However, I do think that the meaning of spring is really interesting. Biblically, spring is generally associated with rebirth, and it is interesting that in Arizona folks literally savour the spring. It is like they are reinvigorated during this time, and are being "reborn" or refreshed before the blazing sun heats the Arizona desert. The entire post really made me think about the way Stravisnky may have felt personally about the spring. And, his feelings likely shaped the somewhat obscure presentation of the piece, including the ballet. Thank you for such an enlightening blog post, that really made me think about the literal meaning of spring to so many people.
